Supporting aspiring and emerging independent filmmakers in Western Australia. Regardless of age, ability, or the equipment you use, your story has a chance to reach the silver screen.
Rock The Boat Film Festival is an independent short film festival for WA storytellers, now in its fifth year. Thousands of audience members have come to watch stories made right here by Western Australians. From seasoned independents to first-time creators, RTBFF is where WA filmmakers can find their footing, grow their craft, and connect with like-minded creatives and community.

Supporting aspiring, emerging and independent filmmakers in Western Australia.
Western Australia has a rich and growing pool of filmmaking talent, and Rock The Boat Film Festival was built to support it. Founded by filmmaker Renae Hardie Braovich, it encourages filmmakers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to create short films and documentaries that move local audiences and leave a mark.
Through festival screenings and Awards Nights, we celebrate the creativity, inclusion, and storytelling power that WA filmmakers bring to the screen.
In 2026, RTBFF begins an international collaboration with Yellowstone International Film Festival in India. Through a short film exchange, WA and Indian filmmakers connect with new audiences beyond their home screens. For those ready to reach further, this opens a new door for WA filmmakers.

"It was an incredible experience to participate. We're so proud of what this event does for the local film scene in WA—creating a space for emerging filmmakers to showcase their work."
Zeke Morgan-Hind, December 2025
"Really fantastic festival! So much care and effort was put into every aspect. My short film had so much overlapping dialogue it would've been a nightmare to subtitle, but they still did it with very clear detail and attention. The festival director came up to me and complimented my short film. She didn't have to but she did and it really meant a lot to me. The whole festival you could feel the effort and love put into it. If you are able to submit to this festival, do it!"
Louis Neylon-Williams, October 2025
"A great festival for local talent. Run by very hard-working individuals with great opportunities and prizes available. Showcases the true spirit of independent filmmaking."
Emilie Lowe, October 2025
"One of the best festivals I've been to. I really felt involved as a filmmaker. Keen to come back next year!"
George Butterworth, October 2025
"A wonderful and professional film festival. Very grateful to have my film selected and screened on the big screen in Rockingham WA."
